School: Failed Drug Test, Tougher Penalties

Greentown, IN
A central Indiana school district is beefing up consequences for students who fail random drug tests. Eastern Howard Schools Superintendent Tracy Caddell said the revisions to the drug testing policy are designed to get students help if they need it and will help the school partner with parents.

The Kokomo Tribune reports the previous drug testing policy allowed for random testing of students who participated in extracurricular activities or drove to school. The results were sent only to parents.

The new policy requires results to be shared with administrators. Penalties range from 30 days off the team or group to a 90-day suspension and mandatory counseling for repeat offenders before they can rejoin the group.
