Santa Ana, CA
Investigators are continuing to build their case against a 14-year-old documented gang member who allegedly shot a fellow Santa Ana High School student last week.
Santa Ana Police
spokesman Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said Saturday that the case had been
submitted to the Orange County District Attorney's office and police are hoping the boy will be prosecuted as an adult.
The 14-year-old, who remained unidentified because of his age, was arrested Thursday afternoon while at school.
"They got him out of the classroom," Bertagna said of the high-school freshman.
The boy was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
