Crimes against Children 7-14-12

A Burke County teacher accused last month in an international child pornography investigation has pleaded guilty.

Fifty-four-year-old Michael Andrew Alexander of Morganton was sentenced Thursday to 49 years and six months in prison. Alexander pleaded guilty to three counts each of a first-degree sex offense with a child and indecent liberties with a child.

Prosecutors dropped several counts of second-degree exploitation of a minor.

Alexander taught in Burke County for 12 years, most recently at Hildebran Elementary School.

A Clintonville man is sentenced to five years in prison followed by ten years of court supervision after pleading guilty to possessing thousands of images of child pornography.

Driscoll was arrested after investigators encountered him in a chat room several times between October 2010 and February 2011.   They pursued an investigation after he expressed sexual interest in children under 12, including infants.

Investigators believed crimes had been committed and traced his computer to his parents’ residence.

A search warrant served in May 2011 turned up 800 videos and 1,500 images of child pornography on an external drive and on Driscoll’s laptop.   

Clermont, FL
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested a Clermont man this morning on child-pornography charges.

Nelson Colon Jr., 41, faces 10 counts of child-porn possession and four counts of transmitting child porn, according to FDLE officials. The agency's cyber-crimes unit had been tracking the man, FDLE spokeswoman Susie Murphy said.

FDLE agents, along with Lake County sheriff's deputies, executed a search warrant at the man's apartment on Cagan Oaks near U.S. Highway 27 and found multiple child-porn images on his computer, officials said.
