Crimes against Children 8-25-12

Abingdon, MD
An Abingdon man who was facing 100 years in a state prison for possession of child pornography will instead serve 18 months at the county jail.

Henry Vernon Hammen III, 31, of the 3200 block of Rock Creek Court, whose trial in Harford County Circuit Court was scheduled to start Monday, instead reported to the Harford County Detention Center to begin his sentence, the day after he returned from vacationing with his family in Virginia, according to court records.

Hammen was indicted in February on 20 counts of possession of child pornography, which carries a sentence of up to five years for each count.

Boston, MA
A Whitinsville lawyer, who is also a Boy Scout leader and part-time middle school teacher, is arrested at his home Tuesday morning and charged with possessing child pornography and enticing children.

Orlando, FL
A man suspected of downloading child pornography was arrested after he brought his computer in to be serviced by Best Buy technicians in Kissimmee.

Employees at the West Osceola Parkway Best Buy called deputies when computer technicians who were repairing 67-year-old George Michael Muschal's computer found photos they thought were child pornography.

Deputies investigated and found more than 250 pornographic images on Muschal's computer. About 38 of those pictures have been confirmed to be child pornography involving girls under 12.

East St. Louis, MO
A Belleville man admitted Tuesday to exchanging nude pictures with an 11-year old.

Jack C. Baldwin Jr., 46, pleaded guilty in federal court in East St.Louis to one count each of enticement of a minor, transfer of obscene matter to a minor and transportation of child pornography. He could face up to a life sentence on the charges at his sentencing Dec. 3.
Authorities say Baldwin and the child exchanged the pictures of each other over three days in Dec. 2011.

The exchanges were caught by Project Safe Childhood, a U.S. justice department initiative launched in 2006 to stop sexual exploitation and abuse of children.

Philadelphia, PA
Tattoo artist Walter Meyerle was found guilty Tuesday in Bucks County Court of 170 counts of sex crimes against 15 children ages 4 to 17, possession of child pornography, and plotting to break out of the county prison.

Meyerle, 35, of Falls Township, will be sentenced after a mandatory 90-day sexual-predator evaluation. He faces a lifetime in prison, said Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Schorn, who handled the case.

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Two men have been charged with possessing child pornography by Ridge Meadows RCMP.
Terrence Little, 41, and Kenneth Storey, 56, have both had their first court appearances, and are currently on conditional releases awaiting their next court appearances.

RCMP initiated charges of possession of child pornography against each man separately. They do not appear to know each other and are not known by police.

An Adams County man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on a child pornography conviction.

James R. Howard, of Peebles, was ordered to spend 240 months in federal prison after he was found guilty of possessing more than 2,400 images and videos of child pornography depicting violence against children younger than 10 years old.

West Union police began investigating Howard after they received a complaint from a resident and seized a computer from him in November.

Forensic analysis of the computer uncovered the cache of child pornography, prosecutors said.

Paul June, a 52-year-old Endicott resident, is under arrest, accused of possessing child pornography. June was arrested by the US Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force and arraigned Friday in Binghamton Federal Court.
