Crimes against Children 9-7-12

Minneapolis, MN
Earlier today in federal court, a 67-year-old Chaska man was sentenced for possessing child pornography. United States District Court Judge John R. Tunheim sentenced Wayne Lee Bourne to 12 months and one day in prison on one count of possession of child pornography. Bourne, who was charged on September 6, 2011, pleaded guilty on September 21, 2011.

In his plea agreement, Bourne admitted that on June 21, 2007, he possessed one or more devices, including a computer, containing a visual depiction of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

This case was the result of an investigation by the Minnesota Cyber Crimes Task Force, which is sponsored by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Secret Service. Other agencies that participated in the investigation included the Chaska Police Department and the FBI’s Birmingham, Alabama, and Philadelphia Field Offices. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly A. Svendsen.

Presently, the Justice Department is funding a study concerning the correlation between involvement in child pornography and the hands-on sexual abuse of children. A 2008 study (The Butner Study) published in the Journal of Family Violence found that up to 80 percent of federal inmates incarcerated for possession, receipt, or distribution of child pornography also admitted to hands-on sexual abuse of children, ranging from touching to rape.

Beaumont, TX
A Southeast Texas man has been sentenced to more than six years in prison in a child pornography case involving about 11,000 computer images.

A federal judge in Beaumont on Tuesday sentenced 37-year-old Shawn Suri. The Beaumont man in May pleaded guilty to possession of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors.

Officers last September searched Suri's home and seized a laptop computer. Investigators say the device also had about 1,000 child porn videos.

Waterford, CT
Former Waterford pastor Dennis Carey has been receiving treatment for his child pornography addiction at a Pennsylvania facility that specializes in behavioral health problems of Catholic clergy members, according to his attorney.

Carey, 65, resigned from Waterford’s St. Paul in Chains Church on June 29 after state and local police served a search warrant on the rectory, where Carey lived, and seized computers they said contained hundreds of images of child pornography. He posted a $100,000 bond following his July 3 arrest for possession of child pornography and has been making appearances in the New London court where major crimes are heard.

Paris, ME
A Fryeburg man has pleaded not guilty to molesting two infants and possessing child pornography.

Twenty-two-year-old Luke Edmunds was arraigned Tuesday in Oxford County Superior Court on charges of possession of sexually explicit materials and unlawful sexual contact.
The Sun Journal ( http://bit.ly/OYjBfL) reports that a Maine State Police investigator says Edmunds was living in Fryeburg with a family member when police traced an Internet address sharing child pornography on file-sharing networks. Police subpoenaed FairPoint Communications and found the Internet account registered to Edmunds' grandfather.

Los Angeles, CA
CBS2 Investigates: Former LA City Commissioner To Plead Guilty To Child Pornography ChargeThe former Los Angles City Commissioner charged with possessing child pornography, initially blaming it on his alleged split personality, is now reportedly agreeing to plead guilty to the crime.

CBS2 investigative reporter David Goldstein tried to talk with Albert Abrams about the charge.
Last year, the former president of the city board of neighborhood commissioners — appointed by the mayor — had plenty to say. He blamed the child porn pictures on his alleged split personality.

Kansas City, Kansas

An eastern Kansas man who set up a nude photo shoot with a 14-year-old girl has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography.

The U.S. Attorney's office says 30-year-old Kristopher Hausback, of Spring Hill, entered the plea Tuesday. He'll be sentenced in December.

Prosecutors say the girl went to a Johnson County hotel in August 2011 to be photographed by Hausback and texted the hotel name and room number to her brother.
