The Facebook messages poured in Wednesday evening, circulating rumors of potential violence in the small town of Exeter.
Exeter Union High School, a school of 1,168 students near the base of Rocky Hill in a tight-knit community, was briefly put on alert. Posts on social media sites, school district officials said, warned of a gang-related shooting on the campus.
From late Wednesday evening to Thursday morning, Exeter Police
Sgt.Celis Rabena said he fielded calls from not only residents in
Exeter, but in Visalia and as far south as Porterville who were
inquiring about the possibility of a school shooting.
