Crimes against Children 10-22-12

Springfield, IL
Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on October 19, 2012, Martin L. Evanick, a/k/a “Vlad,” 31, of Collinsville, Illinois, was arraigned on an one-count indictment charging him with production of child pornography. The alleged violations took place on June 8, 2010 and April 20, 2011, in Madison County. After a detention hearing, the court ordered that Evanick be held without bond pending trial.

The offense charged in the indictment alleges that, between April 1, 2012 and April 21, 2012, Evanick took photographs of himself engaged in sexual activity with a minor, as well as close-up photographs of the minor’s genitalia.

Newport News, VA
For nearly 10 minutes Friday, Michael Rutherford apologized.

Rutherford, 49, was sentenced to serve three years in prison on two child pornography charges — a sentence that fell slightly below the federal sentencing guidelines.

U.S. District Judge Arenda Wright Allen sentenced Rutherford to three years on each count but ordered that the time be served concurrently. Each charge was punishable by up to 10 years in prison, but federal sentencing guidelines called for Rutherford to serve 6 1/2 to 8 years in prison. Rutherford pleaded guilty to the two child pornography charges in June.

Authorities say Rutherford viewed 3,182 images of child pornography via the Internet on his home computer. The pornography included photos and videos. The pornographic images found on Rutherford's computer ranged from toddlers to adults, according to court testimony.

Howard Willie Carter II pleaded not guilty to three counts of child pornography in a California courtroom Friday.

Investigators tell the Associated Press they discovered the child porn after examining his computer.
They were looking into his communications with Quazi Nafis, who is charged in the federal reserve plot.
