CNN
Former FBI profiler Mary Ellen O'Toole says Eric Toth, accused of making child pornography, earns the trust of parents to access children. The former teacher has been on the run from law enforcement for years.

New Haven, CT
David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Steven Donald Lewis, 23, of Plainville, waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty today before United States Magistrate Judge Thomas P. Smith in Hartford to one count of receipt of child pornography.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on November 9, 2010, a Bristol Police Department detective assigned to the Connecticut Computer Crimes Task Force in New Haven logged into a publicly available Internet file sharing program and downloaded 34 images of child pornography from a shared directory maintained by Lewis. On December 8, 2010, Lewis was arrested at his dormitory residence at the University of Connecticut. On that date, law enforcement agents also seized Lewis’ laptop computer.

Analysis of the seized computer revealed thousands of images and videos of child pornography.

Included in his collection of child pornography were images of children under the age of 12 engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Forensic review also revealed that Lewis distributed child pornography images and videos through the file sharing program located on his computer.

Bowling Green, KY
A Barren County/Sidney, Ohio man was convicted by a federal jury in Bowling Green, Kentucky, of transporting a minor across state lines to engage in illegal sexual activity and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, announced David J. Hale, United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky.

According to evidence presented at trial, Harvey transported the child from Sidney, Ohio, to Smiths Grove, Kentucky, in Barren County. In late July 2011, Harvey took the child to a trailer in Smiths Grove, where he forced the child to engage in sexual intercourse and oral sex with him. He also forced her to engage in sexual intercourse and oral sex with another adult male.

On or about August 22, 2011, Harvey again transported the child from Ohio to Barren County, Kentucky. On August 24, 2011, while in Barren County, Kentucky, Harvey encouraged the child to have sex with him, and when the child told him no, he brandished a .22 caliber pistol and told her she deserved to die. Harvey also threatened to hurt himself and other family members.

Newark, NJ
A former seventh grade science teacher and swim coach at an independent New Jersey day school was sentenced today to 97 months in prison for making available images and videos of pre-pubescent children being sexually abused—sometimes violently—to others over the Internet, U.S. Attorney Fishman announced.

Brian Stern, 35, of Plantation, Florida, and formerly of Montclair, New Jersey, previously pleaded guilty to one count of receipt and distribution of child pornography. He entered his guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton, who also imposed the sentence today in Newark federal court.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made during Stern’s guilty plea proceeding:
Until May 2011, when he was arrested, Stern downloaded and posted videos and images of child pornography via peer-to-peer file sharing software, through which others had access to the material on a shared drive. Stern admitted that his offerings included images of numerous children younger than 12 and depictions of sadistic and violent conduct. The images downloaded by federal investigators and found on Stern’s computer included pictures of very young children being restrained and sexually abused.
