Crimes against Children 11-7-12

Boise, ID
Judd E. Ballard is being held in the Ada County Jail on five counts of possession of sexually exploitative material after police say they found images of child pornography on computers in Ballard’s East Boise home late last week.

Police began investigating the 37-year-old Ballard in September after getting a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and found the illegal images on computers after serving a search warrant at Ballard’s home in the 1600 block of South Colorado Avenue Friday afternoon.

Investigators say Ballard was downloading illegal images from the Internet. He was arrested and booked into the jail Friday afternoon.

Kenner, LA
Ronald Brown.jpgA Kenner man was arrested and booked with possession of child pornography after an investigation by the Kenner Police Department.

Ronald Brown, 43, of Kenner, was booked with possession of child pornography. Detectives began conducting an undercover investigation into the possession, manufacture and distribution of child pornography in Kenner four months ago, according to the report. They were looking for residents who sought out or traded the illegal images online.

Investigators discovered that a computer later linked to Brown had a folder containing possible child pornography. They eventually tracked the computer to Brown's apartment and obtained a search warrant, the arrest report said.

Lynchburg, VA
Five men have pleaded guilty in Virginia to child pornography charges.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Heaphy says the men entered pleas Monday in federal court in Lynchburg.
They are Manuel Antonio Mares of Miami; Jeremy Hart Yost of West Bend, Ore.; Richard Phillip Allen of Redondo Beach, Calif.; James Calvin Boyd of Pell City, Ala., and Jesse Leon Coleman of Lynchburg. The defendants range in age from 26 to 66.

They each face up to 20 years in prison, $250,000 fines and will be required to register as sex offenders.

Court testimony showed large numbers of pictures and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children were found on some of the defendants' computers.

Medford, OR
Top PhotoA Southern Oregon gymnastics teacher and sports photographer faces 30 child pornography charges for allegedly taking pictures of students while they were changing during private photo sessions at as many as three local gymnastics businesses over the past nine years, authorities said.

Jeffrey Scott Bettman was arraigned Monday in Jackson County Circuit Court on 30 crimes stemming from photographs seized from his computer during a Friday search of his home on the 1800 block of Camp Baker Road just outside of Medford, authorities said.

The search identified the presence of what appeared to be child pornography photos of gymnasts changing and taken without their consent or knowledge, said Detective Josh Nieminen from the Southern Oregon High-Tech Crimes Task Force, which is investigating the case.

A family law attorney who used to practice in Kent appeared in court today on a federal criminal complaint charging him with receipt and possession of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

David S. Engle, 49 of Maple Valley, was arrested today, and appeared in U.S. District Court in Seattle.

Engle caught law enforcement attention after an investigation of an international movie production company that had a website advertising the sale of DVDs and streaming videos depicting young boys in sexually explicit activity, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
