A call to a Crimestoppers hotline threatening violence at Covington High School on Friday morning forced St. Tammany Parish school system administrators to have extra security on hand from the Covington Police Department. Officials from the district say that students are safe, but they are giving parents the option to pick up their children from school if they choose.
As the Covington Police Department covers the front door of Covington High School, parents check their children out of school early Friday morning after some unsettling rumors about fights August 17, 2012.
According to Meredith Mendez, spokeswoman for the school system, "We made sure the school was safe and secure first thing this morning." She added that contrary to rumors, "there have been no riots or violence of any kind at Covington High School."
