Crimes against Children 8-1-12

Gautier, MS
Jackson County sheriff's investigators have arrested 28-year-old Daniel Adams Phillips of Gautier on a charge of possession of child pornography.

Sheriff Mike Byrd tells The Sun Herald Gautier police initially arrested Phillips on a charge of burglary.

After he was transferred to the Jackson County jail, Byrd says authorities found Phillips' cellphone and did a cursory scan of it, which indicated there was child pornography downloaded on the device.

As a result, Byrd says authorities booked Phillips on a child pornography charge.

Kansas City, MO
A change of plea hearing has been scheduled for a Kansas City Catholic priest accused of multiple child pornography-related charges.

Rev. Shawn Ratigan, 46, is charged in U.S. District Court in Kansas City with six counts of producing child pornography, five counts of attempted production of child pornography and two counts of possession of child pornography.

Boston, MA
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston has suspended the pastor of a Boston church after he was charged with having images of preteen girls on a computer in the rectory.

The 39-year-old Rev. Andrzej Urbaniak (AHND'-jay uhr-BAHN'-nee-ahk) pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of possession and dissemination of child pornography. A judge set cash bail of $15,000. If he is released he must have GPS monitoring, surrender his passport, and avoid children and the internet.
Police said Urbaniak, the pastor of Our Lady of Czestochowa (chess-tuh-KOH'-uh) in South Boston, was arrested Tuesday following a two-month investigation. Police said there's no evidence the images are girls from the area, and no one has alleged to be a victim.

The 43-year-old, who had been filming young women in Winnipeg and posting videos on YouTube, has also been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

The charges relate to four girls, all of whom are 14 years old and considered at-risk youth, police said, adding that more charges are coming.
