Hansen, MA
With the EEE threat level in the area going from moderate to high, Whitman-Hanson has decided to cancel all night games.
That has left some athletes upset, but parents and coaches say better safe than sorry.
This
is just a scrimmage between Whitman-Hanson and Plymouth North girls
varsity soccer teams, but when the season starts next week several
soccer and football games will be moved up or rescheduled to keep
players and their fans safe.
"I think anytime it comes to safety
right you can only make one decision which is to err on the side of
caution," said Assistant Principal and girls soccer coach David Floeck.
Floeck
says the school district has a policy in place that any time the risk
level rises above moderate for contracting mosquito-borne illnesses like
Eastern Equine Encephalitis or West Nile Virus, they curtail nighttime
activities on the advice of the health department.
