Copley Students Accused of Making Violent Threats

Copley, OH
Two Copley High School students are facing suspension for allegedly making threats of violence on Facebook, the Copley Police Department confirmed.

Chief Michael Mier tells Fox 8 News that classmates of the accused students reported them to school officials Friday morning. They were questioned once they arrived at school.

According to a news release from the CPD, the two students engaged in a threatening conversation on Facebook Thursday night. It started when one of the students posted a picture of a firearm and claimed it was real.

The two then discussed the weapon — which turned out to be a toy gun — and began to talk about “killing students, detonating a bomb and planting an explosive device at a school event,” the release said.

Mier says they also directed threats at certain members of the high school marching band. Once the duo realized their threats could be taken seriously, they indicated that they had no intention of carrying them out.
