Autumn Pasquale Disappearance, Death May Be Linked To String Of Attempted Kidnappings In NJ

Westwood, NJ
The search for missing New Jersey 12-year-old Autumn Pasquale ended last night with the discovery of the girl’s body in a recycling container, and police are currently investigating the girl’s disappearance and murder.

While no arrests have been made in Autumn Pasquale’s kidnapping, police have admitted the case may be linked to a series of attempted abductions in Bergen County in recent weeks.

Fox News spoke to local law enforcement officials about Autumn Pasquale’s case, and cops say that they are investigating a link to attempted abductions in Westwood, Oradell, Hawthorne, New Milford, Maywood, Hackensack, Fair Lawn and Ridgewood, all in Bergen County.

Westwood Police Chief Frank Regino said that while police are examining all leads, the possibility of a connection between the kidnapping attempts and Pasquale’s death is being examined:
“We are absolutely investigating whether there is a link … There certainly is a possibility and only time will tell. We’re looking into every possible angle that we can.”

Internet Safety, Free and Easy

The FBI has a program called Safe Online Surfing that provides a free resource for parents, students, and educators in online safety.

From its website:
"FBI-SOS is available through a newly revamped website at https://sos.fbi.gov. The site features six grade-specific “islands”—for third- through eighth-grade students—highlighting various aspects of cyber security through games, videos, and other interactive features. Each island has either seven or eight areas to explore—with a specific cyber safety lesson—and its own central character and visual theme. For example, fourth grade features Ice Island, complete with falling snow and penguins."

The program was developed in conjunction with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, with input from educators.  The program looks to be a fun way to teach children how to be safe online.

"For teachers and schools, FBI-SOS provides virtually everything they need to teach good cyber citizenship:
  • A free, ready-made curriculum that meets state and federal Internet safety mandates (see sidebar for topics covered);
  • Age-appropriate content for each of the six grade levels;
  • A printable teacher’s guide that spells out how teachers can sign up their classes and use the site; and
  • Detailed rules and instructions for students."
Also to be found on this site is information on the Child ID App, a smartphone app parents can use to provide pertinent info to police should the worst happen, and their child is kidnapped.

FBI-SOS and the Child ID App, With the vast number of predators out there, this is a good thing.
