Indiana
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security has begun taking applications for the Indiana Secured Schools grant. According to the WISH TV report, "The Indiana Secured School Fund was created to provide matching grants
to school corporations, charter schools or coalitions of schools to make
schools safer by hiring school resource officers, conducting threat
assessments, or purchasing equipment to restrict access to schools or to
expedite notification of first responders."
This will provide up to $50,000 for school districts with 1,000 students or more, and up to $35,000 for smaller school districts. It is a matching grant, meaning the grant will match what the school district puts into the process. It is also a competitive grant, meaning the school district has to write a proposal, and have that proposal considered among others.
This appear to be an honest attempt by Indiana legislators to help schools shore up their safety efforts.
