Lawrence Central High School was the scene of a rape of a female student by a 16-year old male student.
The two were walking together in the gym when the male student forced the female into a closed hallway, then allegedly raped her.
School and police officials said that physical and video evidence support the girl's claim.

Shiloh, IL
A Shiloh man faces child pornography charges after allegedly video recording his girlfriend's juvenile daughter taking a shower, according to Shiloh police.
Ronald P. Fischer, 36, of the 200 block of Jarvis Drive in Shiloh was charged with four felony counts of child pornography, one felony count of residential burglary and resisting a peace officer, which is a misdemeanor.
On Saturday, the Shiloh Police Department responded to a 911 call in the 100 block of Cornelius Drive in Shiloh in reference to a disturbance. Officers made contact with a juvenile victim who stated that the suspect had video recorded her while she was taking a shower.
Columbia County, NY
State Police have arrested a Claverack man they say had child pornography on his computer.
Michael Trinka, 30, has been charged with possessing a sexual performance of a child and promoting a sexual performance of a child.
Trinka is being held at Columbia County Jail without bail. State Police say additional charges are expected.
San Francisco, CA
Four San Francisco men were arrested Tuesday for possessing child pornography, San Francisco police said.
Investigators with the Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force said they caught the men by targeting peer-to-peer file sharing.
Investigators identified the suspects in chat rooms, and then obtained warrants for their IP addresses. By connecting the IP addresses to their owners, investigators obtained search warrants for homes, where they found child pornography.
Alexis Zhong Wang, 25, was arrested at his home on the 700 block of Naples Street; Jaime Rodriguez, 46, on the 500 block of Natoma Street; Juan Martinez, 28, on the unit block of Cielto Drive and Guillermo Escandon-Aguilar, 28, on the 200 block of Russia Avenue.

A Southern Utah University football player who caught a moment of national attention with his stunning Hail Mary reception in September now faces 10 felony charges stemming from child pornography found on his computer, according to documents filed in 5th District Court on Oct. 3.
Cameron Morgan faces 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony, in connection with 10 pornographic images of children discovered on his computer in a 2010 search, according to a nine-page probable cause statement.
Morgan's computer was seized in December 2010 after an Internet task force discovered child pornography had been downloaded to his IP address from file sharing websites.

Two residents of Arlington, Texas, Todd M. Fowler, 47, and Michael Ray Borah, 37, convicted in separate and unrelated cases involving child pornography, were sentenced today in federal court in Fort Worth, Texas, by U.S. District Judge Terry R. Means. Today’s announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña of the Northern District of Texas.
Fowler was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison and was ordered to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) in January 2013. He pleaded guilty in May 2012 to one count of receipt of child pornography. According to documents filed in his case, Fowler used file sharing software to receive images depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. On May 28, 2011, a search warrant was executed at Fowler’s residence. That same day, Fowler was en route to his home from a trip to Hong Kong, via San Francisco International Airport. At the airport, officials with U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized his MacBook computer that he had used to download child pornography. A forensic examination of the MacBook revealed Fowler possessed 43 videos and 354 still images of child pornography on the computer.

Six Teen Girls Arrested and Charged for Brutal Attack
Chester, PA
Six teen girls from Chester, Pennsylvania
were arrested and charged for beating up a mentally challenged
48-year-old woman, and posting the video on Facebook.
The teen girls who assaulted their neighbor “just for fun” were
charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, burglary and
harassment.
The woman who simply tried to offer the girls some gum or candy was repaid by getting severely beaten up by four of the girls. The attack happened on September 25th outside the woman’s house and continued into her apartment.
“It appears just for fun,” Chester police Detective James Nolan said. “There hasn’t been a discernible explanation as to why.”
The victim didn’t go to authorities, but sought medical attention for her injuries. In fact, police only learned about the assault after a local parent saw the brutal video posting on Facebook.

Livingston, TX
A Livingston youth pastor and youth coach is behind bars, charged with possession of child pornography and sexual assault of a child.
A traffic stop in Georgia led investigators to 46 year-old David Shannon's Polk County home on Wednesday. Investigators said the driver of the car in Georgia had child pornography, including a thumb drive with a video of a man sexually assaulting a boy.
Detectives said they traced the thumb drive back to Shannon and confirmed that he was the man in the video. Shannon's wife identified the victim in the video as the son of family friends.
Boston, MA
James M. Mansfield, a manager who has worked for Boston’s Transportation Department for nearly 30 years, was arrested Friday on child pornography charges and put on unpaid leave, officials said.
Boston police arrested Mansfield, 47, of Charlestown, following an investigation alleging that he was “engaging in graphically sexual chat and exchanging pictures of boys in various stages of undress,” police said in a statement Saturday.

A Maine man convicted of making and distributing child pornography involving an infant has been sentenced to more than 28 years in federal prison.
Federal prosecutors say 32-year-old Royce Breton produced the pornography and distributed it via an online messenger service. More than 300 images of child pornography were later found on a computer in his home.
Breton, who was convicted in May, was sentenced Friday to 340 months in prison and 15 years of probation for production, distribution and possession of child pornography.

A former U.S. Navy seaman was sentenced today to five years in prison for possessing child pornography, announced Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer of the Justice Departments Criminal Division.
James Driver, 24, of Midland, Mich., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Thomas L. Ludington in the Eastern District of Michigan. In addition to his prison term, Driver was sentenced to five years of supervised release. After Driver completes his prison term, he must register as a sex offender as a condition of release.
Following a four-day jury trial, Driver was found guilty on May 21, 2012, of one count of possessing child pornography. According to court documents and testimony presented during the trial, the case originated from a Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) investigation into an individual, later identified as Driver, suspected of possessing and distributing child pornography using a peer-to-peer file sharing network. Driver, who at the time was a U.S. Navy seaman stationed in Japan, admitted in an interview to being interested in child pornography for the past five years.

Rape Charges against High School Players Divide Football Town of Steubenville, Ohio

Police had arrested two sophomore starters just days before and charged them with kidnapping and raping a 16-year-old girl from a town just across the river in West Virginia. One of them is also accused of taking a nude photo or video of the girl.
Several players still on the practice field are also believed to be linked to the incident. Steubenville police are trying to determine whether they were there at the time of the attack or sent digital images of it all over cyberspace.
Officials continue to investigate details of the reports — that the girl was drugged into unconsciousness, ferried from party to party, raped and urinated on before ending up at home where her parents, discovering she was disoriented, took her to a local hospital.

Run! Hide! Fight! A Response to City of Houston's Thoughts on Active Shooters
Michael Dorn emailed me a link to a video made by the City of Houston, with funding from the Department of Homeland Security. The purpose of the video is to instruct people in the workplace on what to do in an Active Shooter Incident. They boil it down to three main responses: Run, hide, or fight.
As I watched the video, I was impressed by it's quality, and by the desire of those who made it to protect others. I therefore applaud their effort, and thank them for the time and energy spent in its making.
That being said, I have a tactical issue with the 'run' part of their instructions. Eight of my twelve years in the US Army were spent in the Infantry. One of the things we were taught was that, when ambushed, you charge the ambush. Thus, if a person barges into my school and begins shooting, my personal choice would be to go to the shooting. That's not my problem with the video.
My problem is with running when you don't know what the situation is. Even with my training, it is difficult to determine where a shot came from, and blindly running at the sound of a shot may send you right into the sights of the shooter. This happened more than once at Columbine.
We need to teach people how not to give into panic, and how to properly react to a shooter. Assess the situation, make the right call, and know where you're running too. The seconds spent doing this could mean the difference between life and death.
The same is true with hiding. It is rare for an Active Shooter to force a locked door. They are often moving quickly, seeking targets of opportunity. At Red Lake, MN, the shooter did force his way in, but in many cases, classes were able to get out of a back door. Hiding places need to have a means of escape.
Another thing I learned in the Infantry was the difference between 'cover' and 'concealment'. One can hide using concealment, but it won't protect you from gunfire. If your hiding place offers you cover, concealment, AND an escape route, then you have a good hiding place.
The key is that people should use this video as a starting point for their thoughts on preparing for violence in the workplace. Spend some time NOW, thinking of what you would do, and those memories will be ready for you IF it ever happens.
Thanks to the City of Houston for making this video. It's a scary topic, and an important one to discuss.
