Chicopee, MA
Blocked by a truck that trapped them in the middle of a shoot-out, Cecilia Rosado put her bus in park, turned off the engine, laid on the floor and made phone calls.
“I thought it was going to be my last day. I was very scared,” she said.
She called the school bus company to warn them not to send any other
buses to Chicopee Center. At the same time Tina McCollaum, the bus
monitor, laid next to the 8-year-old boy on the bus to keep him calm and
phoned the School Department so they could notify his parents.
Those two, crossing guard Deborah Paquette and Joseph Morrissette, a
school resource officer from Comprehensive High School, were honored by
the School Committee and administrators for their courageous and
professional handling of the situation that kept many children safe.
Thank you all, Sheepdogs!
