Violence against Bishop McDevitt Students Reported

Harrisburg PA
Three separate incidents of violence involving Bishop McDevitt students occurred in a 24-hour period, according to police.

A 15-year-old student was beaten and robbed as he left school on Tuesday. Three men wearing hoodies punched and kicked him and took his cellphone, police said.

The student is OK and back in school, but still very shaken up after what happened Tuesday, school officials said.

On Wednesday morning, a group shot at students and a school bus with a BB or pellet gun. No one was hurt in the incident.

The principal is increasing security and asking students not to walk alone and to move parking to the rear of the school.

Urbana, IL
Two Tuscola men were indicted on Wednesday on federal child pornography charges.

Parrish Kappes, 46, of Tuscola was charged with three counts of distribution of child pornography in August and September and one count of possession of child pornography on Oct. 16.

Zachary M. Vincent, 21, of Tuscola was charged in a separate case with two counts of distribution of child pornography in September, one count of receiving child pornography on Oct. 15 and one count of possession of child pornography on Oct. 15.

Norfolk, VA
A former Virginia Beach teacher was charged with possession of child pornography on Wednesday in a federal grand jury indictment, according to a news release.

Michael D. Shanklin Jr., 38, of Virginia Beach is accused of possessing a hard drive containing one or more images of child pornography in the indictment, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride. Shanklin used to teach at Landstown High School in Virginia Beach, according to the release.
Albuquerque, NM
Earlier today, Arnold Gonzales, 27, was sentenced to an 87-month term of imprisonment to be followed by 10 years of supervised release for his child sexual exploitation conviction.

Gonzales also was ordered to comply with sex offender registration and notification requirements.

Gonzales was a military recruiter employed by the U.S. Army and was stationed at the U.S. Army Recruiting Station in Midland, Texas, when he was arrested in this case.

According to the court filings, between April 24, 2012 and May 2, 2012, Gonzales used a computer and cellular phone to entice a person whom he believed to be less than 18 years of age to engage in sexual activity.

U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that Daniel Lasnick, 49, of Arkport, New York, who was convicted of receiving and distributing child pornography, was sentenced to 13 years in prison and 15 years’ supervised release by U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa J. Miller, who handled the case, stated that during an undercover investigation of peer-to-peer file sharing networks by the New York State Police, the defendant was found trading child pornography images and videos online. As part of his plea, Lasnick admitted to receiving and distributing child pornography over the file sharing network. Many of the images depicted images of prepubescent minors and violent acts involving children.

Melvin Douglas, a/k/a Melvin Longwood, age 32, of Washington, D.C., and Dennis Smith, a/k/a Domo, age 31, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, pleaded guilty today to transporting a minor across state lines to engage in prostitution. In a separate case, Dennis Smith, a/k/a Domo, age 31, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, pleaded guilty today to the same charge and to sex trafficking of a minor.

A man is behind bars at the Madison County Jail on a child pornography charge.

William Anthony Rodriguez, 25, was booked by the Madison County Sheriff's Office for possession of child pornography, according to the jail's online record.

Orlando, FL
A Polk County man accused of drugging and raping a woman, is facing additional charges after investigators found child pornography on his personal computer, officials said.

While investigating charges that William Lee McCallister, 59, sexually battered a woman at his Winter Haven business, Florida Polygraph Associates Inc., during a polygraph test, police searched his computers, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

The State Attorney's office filed more charges after Winter Haven police said they found 31 obscene images on McCallister's hard drives and a .357 Smith and Wesson revolver.

Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Thomas DrayA 23-year-old Fort Lauderdale man was arrested on Tuesday and accused of possessing one of the largest collections of child pornography videos that South Florida investigators have ever found, Fort Lauderdale Police said.

Thomas Dray was tracked down in a house on the 3000 block of Southwest 16th Street when investigators with the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force linked him to an Internet Protocol address used for sharing child pornography files, according to the arrest report.

Polk County, FL
A 70-year-old man has been charged with possession and distribution of child pornography, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.

FlannaganJohnnie Leon Flannagan, 108 Howard St., Eagle Lake, was arrested and charged today with four counts of distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography.

Detectives received information that Flannagan had downloaded videos of child porn to his home computer, and the videos were found during a search. Detectives determined that the images had been downloaded and distributed via his Internet connection.

Columbia, MO
Federal and Boone County sheriff's investigators believe images of child pornography found on a cellphone belonging to an Ohio suspect were created by a Columbia man who was found yesterday with the children depicted in the photos in his custody.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations on Monday contacted the Boone County Sheriff's Department Cyber Crimes Task Force after learning images of child pornography under investigation by Ohio federal agents had originated from Boone County, according to a task force news release. Text messages on the Ohio cellphone allegedly indicate the sender had personally taken the photos, it said.
