Cherokee, IA
Just before noon Thursday, the Cherokee Police Department says it responded to an attempted abduction incident near the city's Central Park by Fareway.
Authorities say a 22-year-old adult male reported he was approached by a male suspect driving a silver van. The driver asked the young man where he was going, and told to "get in the car". The victim tells police he refused, and continued walking to work. The suspect turned around and drove away without any further contact.
The following is a release from Cherokee CSD Superintendent John Chalstrom:
In order to provide accurate information and prevent the spread of erroneous rumors, I would like to clarify reports that have been circulating in the school and community regarding a possible child abduction.
There was no attempt to abduct a student of the Cherokee CSD. This morning, local law enforcement received a report from an adult who claimed to have been stopped by a gentleman in his 50's and told to get in his van. The adult did not get in the van, reported to work, and contacted law enforcement nearly an hour later.

Police said Dixon reported two males in a black pick-up truck abducted her and inappropriately touched her while she was in the vehicle.
Investigators say Dixon falsified her statement and that the abduction did not occur. Greensburg police said Walmart provided valuable video surveillance used in the investigation. Police say Dixon has not given a reason for why she filed the false report.

Disturbing Incidents in San Mateo
An incident a week ago at Parkside Elementary School in San Mateo illustrates the dangers of taking the security of a school for granted.
Repeated incidents over a six-month period were apparently not enough to alert schools to ramp up their security, and a 9-year old girl was allegedly abducted and molested by Bradley Mrozek's latest trespass into a school.
Below are a couple more articles on the various incidents.
San Mateo, CA
New security measures are being put in place at Parkside Elementary School in San Mateo just days after a 25-year-old man wandered onto campus and abducted a nine-year-old student.
School officials did not return a call for comment Wednesday afternoon, but Parkside Principal Lori Fukumoto said in a statement on the school's website that staff was working to implement changes to current safety practices "that will improve security for all students."
Effective immediately, all gates to the Parkside campus will be locked during the day, and all visitors must register in the main office and wear a visitor badge while on campus, officials said.
The changes in security protocol were prompted by a series of alleged offenses by Bradley Mrazek of San Francisco, who allegedly trespassed on three different school campuses on Friday, ending with the alleged abduction at Parkside Elementary School.
San Mateo, CA
The man facing kidnapping and molestation charges after allegedly snatching a 9-year-old girl from a San Mateo school campus has been linked to an unsolved incident at a Daly City elementary school in which four girls say a man tried photographing them from underneath bathroom stalls.
In March, six months before 25-year-old Bradley Mrozek was arrested for allegedly grabbing a Parkview Elementary School student inside the girls’ bathroom, authorities believe he holed up inside a stall at George Washington Elementary School in Daly City and tried photographing young girls as they used the facilities. On March 16, the girls reported seeing a flash and fetched a teacher who tried forcing the man from the stall. He finally ran from the bathroom and fled. The case remained unsolved until the school principal read of Mrozek’s arrest in several bizarre on-campus incidents and told police they might want to investigate the earlier case, too.
The teacher picked Mrozek out of a photo lineup and a second witness also supports the identification, said District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
Schools should have written procedures for signing visitors in, and for how to respond should an intruder be detected. They should exercised regularly. Schools are responsible for the safety and security of their students. While not knowing all of the details of numerous incidents, it is clear that Mrozek trespassed onto several school campuses, and wasn't arrested until after molesting a young girl who thought she could safely go to the restroom.
What are your school's sign-in procedures, and how is their supervision? That's a question worth asking your child's school.

The questions are swirling around Starms Early Childhood Center. TODAY'S TMJ4 has identified the name of the suspect and TODAY'S TMJ4 is beginning to learn more about how she made her move.
As four-year-old Charity recovers from an abduction, her mom, Paula, is amazed at how this could have happened.
Witnesses saw 33-year-old Lisa Isaac walk into school and take her baby girl, while mom waited in an office just feet away. "I waited for her a while and she never came, and the teacher came down and said that she had left with a lady with a curly wig, and said I told her to pick her up," said Paula.
Milwaukee Public Schools Communications Director Roseanne St. Aubin told TODAY'S TMJ4 extra security staff has been added to the center. She maintains Isaac snuck into school with daycare van drivers and snatched the girl.
"That little girl was passing close to that group of people, and the woman took her," said Roseann St. Aubin.

Child Abduction Digest 5-22-12
Wellington, FL
Reports of a man attempting to lure two students into his car have parents and officials at dozens of western Palm Beach County schools on alert.
The Palm Beach Post ( http://bit.ly/KPWkr9) reports no students were injured or abducted in the incidents reported last week. At least two principals sent letters home, asking parents to caution their children.
Loxahatchee Grove, FL
The mother of a Loxahatchee Groves middle school girl approached by a man on the street last week said that he is likely the same man who tried to abduct a Wellington girl two days later.
Tiffanie Hoffman also said her 13-year-old daughter, a sixth-grader at Osceola Creek Middle School, was approached by a man who tried to lure her into his car multiple times as she walked home on Orange Boulevard on May 14.
Phoenix, OR
When a middle school student was approached by a stranger while waiting for the school bus on North Rose Street and South Pacific Highway, school officials say she knew exactly what to do.
"What we've been doing to teach safety amongst our students was followed through," Talent Middle School principal Curt Shenk said.
On Friday, Phoenix Police say a young girl was approached by a man driving a van. Police Chief Derek Bowker said the man told her the buses weren't running and he'd give her a ride to school.
But police say the girl walked away. That's when the driver saw an officer watching, police say, then took off.
Bronx, NY
Civic activists Joyce Wilson and Frank Belcher said, this week, it defies logic for parents to have their young children wait alone at their schools up to an hour before the start of the school day.

Wilson
and Belcher made their comments in response to reports that the mother
of a 6-year-old boy, who was almost kidnapped last Friday morning, was
left in front of PS 160 an hour before the start of his school's
breakfast program.
John
Vazquez, the custodial worker who foiled the Section 5 kidnapping of
the boy, said that the 6 year old was left, unattended, in front of the
school at 7 a.m. on a daily basis since the start of the school year in
September.
In
the wake of last Friday's near-tragedy, the boy's guardians now take
the child to school, no longer leaving him unattended, Vazquez said
Tuesday.

It was the quick thinking of a young girl that kept what could have been an abduction from taking place Wednesday morning. The young girl had gotten about a block into her three block walk to school when the frightening event happened. In a KRMG exclusive, the ten year olds mother told us what happened. “A red vehicle, a small red truck came and motioned her to come towards them and she immediately turned and ran home.”
The mother took a deep breath and told me “I ran outside immediately to look for the truck but couldn’t see anything.”
