Kentucky Department of Education target of cyber-attack

Kentucky DOE

A parent portal used to access student grades was hit by a denial of service attack that shut it down for almost a week.

50 small school districts were denied access due to the attack.  The Kentucky DOE worked with AT&T to repair the portal, and shore it up against further attacks.

Two Children Dead, Others Injured after School Bus Crash

Carroll County, KY
Two children are dead and others were injured after a school bus crashed and rolled over in Carroll County.

According to Kentucky State Police Trooper Brad Arterburn, nine children and two adults were on board bus number 140 when it crashed at 3258 Boone Road at 4:32 p.m. on Monday.

Two children were pronounced dead at the scene, three were transported to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville where they are expecting a fourth.

One child was transported to UK Medical Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky; an additional three children were released to their parents after the crash.

The adult assistant on the bus was transported to a hospital. The driver was uninjured.

Violence Threat Investigation at Central High in Hopkins County

Louisville, KY
The Hopkins County School System requested the Sheriff Department to investigate social network complaints involving threats of violence at Central High School this morning.

The Hopkins County School Resource Officer, Sheriff Deputies, and KSP did a precautionary patrol inside and outside of Central High School as students arrived.

School Officials, Law Enforcement Respond to "Potential Threat" at Hopkins Co Central HS

Extra officers and even gun sniffing dogs were at a Hopkins Central High School, after concern of a possible threat of violence.

Sheriff's Deputies say they were contacted by the school system Wednesday night. Thursday, three different agencies placed officers at schools across the district.

Law enforcement still aren't sure where this whole thing originated, but several parents took it into their own hands and kept their children home Thursday.

Last night, the Board of Education says Hopkins County Central received a call saying that a student overheard a conversation that included the word "shoot-out". Law enforcement were quickly notified and began their investigation.

SWAT Situation near Shawnee High School

Louisville, KY
A report of shots fired near Shawnee High School turned into a SWAT situation Friday afternoon at a house at 41stand Larkwood Avenue in Louisville's west end.

A MetroSafe dispatcher said police chased two young men who were shooting at each other near the school around 12:40 p.m.

Police said they arrested a 15-year-old suspect. The second suspect barricaded himself inside a house, and a SWAT team was called to the scene. A daycare center is located across the street.
Nearby Shawnee High School at 4018 West Market Street remained at a heightened security level Friday afternoon. 

Jefferson County Public Schools officials were notified at 12:44 p.m.  JCPS spokesperson Lauren Roberts said Shawnee High School's heightened security level remained at level 3 immediately following the incident.

Kentucky Students Charged with Secretly Videotaping Under Teacher's Dress

Police have charged two Kentucky high school students with video voyeurism after they say one of them held a cellphone under a teacher's dress, made a video and posted it online.
An arrest warrant obtained by WLKY-TV says the two-18-year-old students at Louisville's Doss High School shot the video Wednesday.

Police charged Eugene Cain and Devon Ewing. Police say Ewing asked the teacher for assistance and when she bent over, Cain held Ewing's cellphone under her dress and recorded.

Today's Child Abduction Digest 4-23-12

Ashland, KY

According to police reports, the grandmother of a Catlettsburg elementary student says a man driving a white van tried to coax her granddaughter off her porch and into his vehicle, an alleged abduction attempt.

Tuscon, AR

Investigators early Monday sent FBI dogs trained for urban searches into the Tucson home where a 6-year-old girl disappeared as teams of law officers worked to determine if she was abducted.

Today's Child Abduction Digest 4-21-12

At two Boyd County schools, reports this week of another attempted abduction and circling vehicles has local Facebook pages heating up.

 Sun Valley, CA

Police are investigating a third report in recent weeks of a man exposing himself near a school in Sun Valley.

The latest incident happened Thursday morning around 7:30 a.m. near Francis Polytechnic High School. A teenage girl was walking to school when she said a man in a red compact car called out to her and exposed himself.

Teen Squares Off with Kindergartner

A 17-year old squares off with a five year old on a school bus.  They exchange words, the teen apparently kicks the youngster in the chest, knocking him into the opposite seat, and then picks up the youngster and carries him to the front of the bus.
