Granite City School Suspends Multiple Students over Twitter Comments
Granite City, MO
A sexually inappropriate tweet about a teacher started it, but by the time administrators at Granite City High scoured the recent social media activity of students, at least 10 were suspended, unleashing an explosion of criticism online.
School administrators said they had no choice but to act because students violated school rules.
But an official with the Illinois chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union said the school district and others throughout the country are commonly going too far when it comes to monitoring Internet activity outside of school.

Child Abduction Digest 8-9-12
Glendale, MO
Police are investigating after a receiving a report of a suspicious man in Glendale, Missouri.
Sergeant Bob Catlett with the Glendale Police Department says the report came from an 11-year-old girl who says she was approached by an unknown man driving a red pickup truck.
The girl was walking home on North Sappington Road at Nancy Carol Lane when a red Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by a white man in his 40s, pulled up to the intersection and told the girl, "Hey, come here."
The girl told him no, and he told her, "It's okay."
The girl ran to a nearby home and called 911.

St. Francois County, MO
Parents are on edge and police are worried in and around Bonne Terre, Missouri. Two men have been trying to lure young people into their truck, authorities said. It has happened as many as four times, twice on Wednesday.
The most recent case happened around 7 last night in Bonne Terre when a seven year old girl said two men tried to get her inside their vehicle. She ran home. Her family does not want her identity disclosed. The girl said this about the two men, “I was scared that they were going to take me.”
A few hours earlier and about 5 miles away Terre du Lac police said two girls, ages 10 and 12, were walking to the store when they were approached by two men in a similar truck. The chief said the passenger even got out and tried to grab the girls. They ran off unharmed. Still police are concerned.

Former Police Officer, School Board Member Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Attempted Sex with a Minor

David M. Ketchmark, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a former Lansing, Kansas police officer and school board member was sentenced in federal court today for attempting to entice a minor for illicit sex.
On October 24, 2011, Duncan pleaded “no contest” to using the Internet to attempt to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity and to crossing the state line to attempt to engage in a sexual act with a minor. Duncan was an officer with the Lansing, Kansas Police Department until November 2010. He had been a DARE officer and coordinator of the Safe Kids program and was named Officer of the Year in 2008. Duncan resigned from the Lansing School Board in November 2010.
