Minneapolis, MN
United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Ina Crow Dog, age 48, of Rosebud, South Dakota, appeared before United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange on November 5, 2012, and pled guilty to sexual abuse. The maximum penalty upon conviction is life in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both.
The conviction stems from an incident that took place on or about between December 1, 2010 and December 31, 2010, when Crow Dog and another individual sexually abused a victim.
Albuquerque, NM
This afternoon, a federal judge sentenced Robert W. Schmidt, 56, of Albuquerque, to a 97-month term of imprisonment for his conviction for transporting child pornography. Schmidt will be on supervised release for 10 years after he completes his prison sentence. He also will be required to register as a sex offender.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales said that Schmidt entered a guilty plea on November 14, 2011, to count one of a four-count superseding indictment charging him with two counts of transportation of child pornography and two counts of possession of child pornography. As required by his plea agreement, counts two, three, and four of the superseding indictment were dismissed after Schmidt was sentenced.
Schmidt was arrested on April 5, 2011, as a result of an investigation by the Albuquerque Police Department, the FBI, and the New Mexico Regional Forensic Computer Lab, which was initiated after a maintenance employee at the apartment complex where Schmidt was a tenant reported seeing child pornography on a computer in Schmidt’s apartment. The maintenance man observed the child pornography after entering the apartment to facilitate an emergency repair. Based on the maintenance man’s report, the Albuquerque Police Department executed a search warrant at Schmidt’s apartment and seized computers and computer-related media, which contained thousands of child pornography images and videos.

Adam Butler, 32, of Philadelphia was charged today by indictment with receipt and possession of child pornography, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. The indictment charges Butler with two counts of receiving child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography in August 2012.

David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Travis Carlson, 30, of Winsted, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Janet C. Hall in New Haven to 27 months of imprisonment, followed by 10 years of supervised release, for possessing child pornography.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Carlson used the Internet to trade images and videos of child pornography. Included in his collection of child pornography were images of children under the age of 12 engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Carlson was arrested on a federal criminal complaint on September 16, 2010. On August 23, 2012, he waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty to one count of receipt and distribution of child pornography.
Bluffton, SC
A 63-year-old Bluffton man was charged Friday with sharing child pornography on the Internet, according to the Bluffton Police Department.
Dennis Keith Bennet faces three charges of sexual exploitation of a minor. He has been released on his own recognizance from the Beaufort County Detention Center.
A Berkeley County Sheriff's Office detective, who is part of the Internet Crimes Against Children task force, located Bennet during an investigation of peer-to-peer file-sharing of child pornography, Bluffton police Lt. Joe Babkiewicz said.

An investigation of internet child porn ended today with the arrest of a Belle Isle
contractor after thousands of illegal images of children as young as 6
were seized from his Hoffner Avenue home, according to a statewide cyber
crime unit.
Frederick James Ward was picked up at the Hilton Hotel Bonnet Creek near Walt Disney World, arrest records show.
Ward, 54, became a suspect in July when the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Cyber/High-Tech Crime unit noticed internet files depicting the sexual exploitation were being shared by a computer later tracked to his internet address, records show.
Mt. Pleasant, MI
A professor whose research focuses on Internet censorship and the use of children in advertising has been charged with having child pornography on his Central Michigan University computer.
The school announced Thursday that it has suspended William L. Merrill and barred him from the campus in Mount Pleasant, about 120 miles northwest of Detroit.
According to the university, its information technology employees found "inappropriate material" on Merrill's computer Monday, and it suspended him that day.

A former Philadelphia police inspector who served time in prison for possessing child pornography has been arrested again, this time after allegedly trying to lure an 8-year-old Roxborough girl into his car, police said.
Leo Haley, 72, a registered Megan's Law offender, was arrested Thursday morning on charges of unlawful restraint, luring a child, making terroristic threats, and harassment. The charges stem from an Oct. 17 incident on the 7000 block of Voight Road, about two miles from Haley's Lauriston Street home.

A truck driver from Columbus, Ohio, was arrested Thursday in Butler County in connection with a computer flash drive that contained photographs of child pornography.
Robert Burwinkle, 52, was arrested after investigators from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office received a tip a few days ago that the flash drive found in St. Clair Township contained sexually oriented photos of minors.
The investigation eventually led to Burwinkle. After the suspect was located in Butler County, he gave an interview that led investigators to confiscate additional pornographic materials involving minors.

U.S. District Judge William D. Quarles, Jr. sentenced Rahn Hemby, age 23, of Hyattsville, Maryland, today to four years in prison followed by lifetime supervised release for possessing child pornography. Judge Quarles ordered that upon his release from prison, Hemby must register as a sex offender in the place where he resides, where he is an employee, and where he is a student, under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).
According to the plea agreement, on September 28, 2010 and March 1, 2011, an undercover FBI agent connected to a publicly available file sharing program on the Internet and observed that Hemby was logged in, sharing over 15,000 files, including images of child pornography. The agent downloaded some of the images and videos of child pornography from Hemby’s shared file.

Nathan Derek McGinn, 32, of Brownwood, Texas, pleaded guilty today before U.S. District Judge Sam R. Cummings to one count of receiving child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña of the Northern District of Texas. He faces a maximum sentence of not less than five years or more than 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. Judge Cummings ordered a presentence investigation report with a sentencing date to be set after the completion of that report. McGinn remains in federal custody.
According to documents filed in the case, McGinn used his computer, which was connected to the Internet, to access music and various forms of pornography through the use of file sharing software. Specifically, McGinn used the software to collect and share hundreds of images of child pornography.

A Columbus man accused of video taping a juvenile girl in various states of nudity has been given a plea bargain in court Thursday morning.
Royce Nicely was facing two felony counts of voyeurism, three misdemeanor counts of voyeurism, one count of tampering with evidence, and 16 counts of pandering sexually-oriented matter involving a minor.

An Oakdale priest who formerly served at a parish in St. Paul pleaded guilty Thursday, Nov. 8, to molesting two boys and possessing child pornography.
Curtis Carl Wehmeyer, 48, sexually abused the brothers when he
was pastor of Blessed Sacrament on St. Paul's East Side, he admitted in a
Ramsey County District Court hearing Thursday afternoon. He also
pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography.
West Palm Beach, FL
The former local chief of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had up to 150 pieces of child pornography on his personal laptop and used his expertise to wipe the computer clean, according to federal court documents filed this week.
The revelations come on the eve of Anthony Mangione's Friday sentencing for e-mailing child pornography to a former school bus driver in Delaware. He faces a mandatory five years in prison with federal prosecutors seeking a sentence of a little more than seven years.

Madison County, ALA man is behind bars at the Madison County Jail on a child pornography charge.
William Anthony Rodriguez, 25, was booked by the Madison County Sheriff's Office for possession of child pornography, according to the jail's online record.
Orlando, FL
A Polk County man accused of drugging and raping a woman, is facing additional charges after investigators found child pornography on his personal computer, officials said.
While investigating charges that William Lee McCallister, 59, sexually battered a woman at his Winter Haven business, Florida Polygraph Associates Inc., during a polygraph test, police searched his computers, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
The State Attorney's office filed more charges after Winter Haven police said they found 31 obscene images on McCallister's hard drives and a .357 Smith and Wesson revolver.

pornography found on a cellphone belonging to an Ohio suspect were
created by a Columbia man who was found yesterday with the children
depicted in the photos in his custody.The Federal Bureau of Investigations on Monday contacted the Boone County Sheriff's Department Cyber Crimes Task Force after learning images of child pornography under investigation by Ohio federal agents had originated from Boone County, according to a task force news release. A resident of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania pleaded guilty in federal court to child pornography charges, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
Andrew Dahmen, 22, of 10 Lebanon Hills Drive, Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography before Senior United States District Judge Gustave Diamond.
In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that, on January 2, 2012, Mt. Lebanon police responded to a pizza restaurant at 713 Washington Road, after the father of a 5 year-old child reported that Dahmen had attempted to produce a cellular telephone image of the child in the bathroom. Further investigation resulted in the seizure of the cellular phone as well as computers and storage media from Dahmen’s residence. Dahmen was found to be in possession of hundreds of images of child pornography, including images depicting prepubescent minors.

Michael Lee McCormick, 42, of Winifrede, Kanawha County, West Virginia, admitted that on November 26, 2008, he knowingly possessed on his computer more than 600 images depicting child pornography. The defendant admitted that he knew the images constituted child pornography. McCormick also admitted that many of the images depicted prepubescent minors. McCormick also admitted that he shared some of the images with other Internet users by means that included a computer.

David M. Ketchmark, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Kansas City, Missouri man was sentenced in federal court today for drugging and molesting 13 child victims, with some of the sexual abuse videotaped, over a four-year period.
James Phillip “Phil” Edwards, 63, of Kansas City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dean Whipple to 245 years in federal prison without parole.
“We’re satisfied that an extremely dangerous sexual predator is guaranteed to spend the rest of his life in prison,” Ketchmark said. “A virtual life sentence is the only just resolution for a self-confessed pedophile who drugged innocent children in order to sexually abuse them and then recorded videos of his molestation. This serial abuser will never victimize another child for the rest of his life.”
On March 16, 2012, Edwards pleaded no contest and the court entered a judgment of guilty to all 21 counts contained in an April 7, 2010, federal indictment. Edwards was found guilty of 12 counts of producing videos of the sexual abuse of 12 separate children, the attempted production regarding a 13th child, the advertising and attempted distribution over the Internet of images of the sexual abuse of other children, and possession of a large collection of child pornography downloaded from the Internet. The court also found Edwards guilty of five counts of administering a drug to some of the victims to facilitate these crimes.

A federal jury found Luis E. Morales (58, Ormond Beach) and Rebecca Rivera (27, Hartford, Connecticut) guilty yesterday of one count of sex trafficking of a minor and two counts of transporting a minor over state lines with the intent to engage in sexual activity. Morales was also convicted of three additional counts of transporting a minor over state lines with the intent to engage in sexual activity. Morales and Rivera each face a maximum penalty of life in federal prison. Their sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 22, 2013.
According to evidence presented at trial, Morales was a self-proclaimed “Apostle” in a ministry he founded called En Fuego for Jesus. Rivera was one of his “prophets” in the ministry. In November 2009, Morales and Rivera transported a 12-year-old minor, who was also a member of the ministry, from Florida to Connecticut knowing that the minor would be caused to engage in a commercial sex act. In December 2010, Morales transported another minor, age 13, who was also a member of the ministry. He transported the victim from Arizona to Florida, and then to the Virgin Islands, with the intent to engage in sexual activity with the minor.

Christina Reed, 33, 583 East Market St., Cadiz, has been charged with three counts of pandering obscenities involved a minor and two counts illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material or performances, all felonies of the second degree.
Chad Tyler, 29, 413 St. Clair Avenue, was charged with two counts of pandering obscenities involving a minor, felonies of the fourth degree, complicity in illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material or performances, a felony of the second degree, and complicity in pandering obscenities involving a minor, a felony of the second degree.
Jessica Manbeck, 36, 351 St. Clair Avenue, Cadiz, was charged with two counts of pandering obscenities involving a minor. a felony of the second degree, and illegal use of a minor in a nudity oriented material or performance, a felony of the second degree.

Detectives said a search warrant was used to search the home of Anthony Sibley at 1520 Oak St. on Oct 23. Deputies said they seized items used to store and facilitate the sharing of child pornography files over the Internet.

Two men from Southeast Louisiana
have been arrested and charged with possessing pornography involving
juveniles this week, according to the Louisiana Attorney General’s
office.
Although not connected, both men were arrested following an investigation by the Attorney General’s High Technology Crime Unit.
On Monday, 39-year-old Paul A. Pichon of Slidell was arrested and charged with eight counts of possessing pornography involving juveniles after a joint investigation with the Slidell Police Department.
If convicted, Pichon could face up to 20 years in prison on each count and fines up to $50,000.
Pichon, who was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail, has since been released after posting bond.
On Wednesday, Marvin Thornton, 49, of Denham Springs, was arrested and charged with 100 counts of possessing pornography involving juveniles.
Thornton, who was on probation for a 2011 obscenity conviction is currently being held at the Livingston Parish Detention Center in lieu of a $10 million bond.

Hochul, Jr., of the Western District of New York, announced that Richard Bailey, 54, of Rochester, New York, was arrested today and charged by criminal complaint with receiving, distributing, and possessing child pornography. The charges carry a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.
Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Field, who handled the matter, stated that Richard Bailey used his computer to access the unsecured wireless networks of other individuals and businesses to obtain and distribute child pornography over the Internet.

Myron Irby, 29, of Duluth, Georgia, appeared in federal court today on charges of sex trafficking a 16-year-old girl. Irby was arraigned before United States Magistrate Judge Linda T. Walker. Irby was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 23, 2012, for sex trafficking of a minor and attempted sex trafficking of a minor.
United States Attorney Sally Yates said, “This case demonstrates that there is no ‘stereotypical’ sex trafficking offender. Traffickers range from violent abusers to subtle manipulators who prey upon those whose life circumstances make them vulnerable. Unfortunately, in some cases, the offender shares a close relationship with the victim, such as a spouse, significant other, or family member, making the victim even more susceptible to the offender’s manipulations. Randy Brown was the Cyclones' assistant coach in 2003 when he was first charged, and he pleaded guilty the next year to receiving child pornography over the Internet. He was sentenced to two years in federal prison.
The Fort Dodge Messenger reports (http://bit.ly/R2T1Sd) that the 55-year-old Brown was recently charged with an exclusion zone violation. That law bans convicted sex offenders from working or volunteering any place primarily used by minors.

United States Attorney Robert Pitman announced that 33-year-old Robert Ramos, Jr., of Austin, faces a minimum mandatory 15 years and up to 50 years in federal prison after pleading guilty earlier today to production and distribution of material relating to the sexual exploitation of children.
Appearing before United States Magistrate Judge Mark Lane, Ramos, who was previously an assistant band director at Dessau Middle School in Pflugerville, admitted that he obtained sexually explicit images of a 13-year-old girl through communicating with her on Facebook using Facebook accounts that falsely portrayed him as a teenaged girl. Ramos then distributed those images to a teacher in New York, Timothy Bek, who was also contacting underage girls for the purpose of obtaining sexually explicit images. Ramos also admitted that he viewed and recorded, via Internet webcam, a video broadcast of a 5-year-old girl being sexually abused by Jennifer Mahoney, of New Jersey. Both Bek and Mahoney have been prosecuted in their respective jurisdictions for their criminal activities relating to child pornography.

An 18-year-old senior at Highland Park High School has been charged with sexually assaulting an underage classmate, MyFoxDFW.com reported.
Highland Park police on Monday arrested Ryan Romo on a charge of sexual assault of a child. Romo left jail the following day on a $100,000 bond.
The alleged victim, a Highland Park underclassman who knows Romo, told police she bumped into Romo at a concert and then left the venue with him. The pair took a cab to Romo's Chevy Tahoe and then drove the SUV to a street, where they parked and began making out, according to the document.
That's when Romo allegedly raped the girl, despite her protests, the affidavit states.
It also states that Romo dropped off the alleged victim at her home, where she told her mother about the alleged attack.

Plea negotiations are underway for a Rapid City man accused of possessing child pornography.
Abraham Davila, 34, is charged with six counts of possessing, distributing or manufacturing child pornography.
Lake Wales, FL
A former Lake Wales youth minister who is a convicted sex offender was indicted on two counts of producing and attempting to produce child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Arnold Maurice Mathis, 41, is facing a minimum of 35 years in prison if convicted. Mathis was a youth minister and associate pastor at Higher Praise Ministries in Lake Wales during the time he is accused of producing and attempting to produce the pornography between May and November 2011.
East Hartford, CT
Federal agents on Thursday charged a 48-year-old East Hartford police officer with one count of receiving child pornography.
Andrew W. Nielsen, of 58 Pleasant Valley Road, South Windsor, is accused of ordering multiple DVDs of child pornography from a foreign company. The videos were shipped to his home sometime between November 2010 and April 2011, prosecutors said.
South Windsor police were
called to assist federal agents in the U.S. Postal Inspection Service
who raided Nielsen's home and reportedly seized DVDs of child
pornography.

A Belleville man was sentenced on October 29, 2012, following his plea of guilty to a three-count indictment charging him with enticement of a minor (count one), transfer of obscene matter to a minor (count two), and transportation of child pornography (count three), the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today. Jack C. Baldwin, Jr., 46, of Belleville, Ill., was sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment on count one, 10 years’ imprisonment on count two, and 20 years’ imprisonment on count three, all to run concurrently.
The investigation revealed that Baldwin, who was 45 years old at the time, sent the victim, who he knew to be 11 years old at the time, two pictures of his nude, erect penis using his cellular phone, with one of the pictures being sent on December 10, 2011. It also revealed that, between December 10 and December 13, 2011, Baldwin persuaded and induced the victim to send Baldwin a picture of the victim’s genitalia. A forensic review of the cellular phone Baldwin used to send and receive the pictures was conducted, and revealed that Baldwin sent the photograph of the victim from his cellular telephone account to his e-mail account on December 13, 2011.

A four-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court charges STEVEN ANDREW THOMAS, 43, with inducing a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct, between December 2009 and December 2011 in Morgan County, for the purpose of producing a picture of that conduct. Thomas also is charged with distributing child pornography via the Internet in September 2011; receiving child pornography via the Internet in November 2011; and possessing child pornography in December 2011.
In a separate child exploitation case, the grand jury charged JOSEPH WAYNE KING, 54, of Oklahoma, with failing to register as a convicted sex offender in Alabama after moving from Oklahoma to Madison County in February. The Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act requires convicted sex offenders to register and update their registration as sex offenders wherever they live, attend school, or are employed.

A 33-year-old city man suspected of possessing and sharing images and videos of child pornography was arrested at his home on Friday, the state police said.
Jason Fraser, of P.O. Box 73 Lebanon, Norwich, was charged with one count of first-degree possession of child pornography with bail set at $50,000.
A
computer crimes unit of the state police allegedly discovered that
child pornography files were shared from an Internet account at based
out of Fraser's home. Police served a warrant Friday, seizing evidence
that contained such files, according to a police report.

Liebert, 33, of Whitmore Lake, Michigan, admitted that for approximately five months, beginning in November 2011 through March 2012, he established a relationship with a 12-year-old minor residing in Putnam County, West Virginia. Liebert admitted that he communicated with the minor by e-mail and cellphone where they had conversations that were sexual in nature. Liebert further admitted that he exchanged sexually explicit images with the minor.

Virtually everyone has a cellular telephone with a camera and most people use them in a responsible manner. But this week, three individuals were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Samuel H. Mays for using their phones to produce or receive child pornography.
John Vincent LaBuda, 31, of Shelby County, pleaded guilty to one count of production of child pornography and was sentenced to 360 months in federal prison. He also pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography and was sentenced to 120 months that will run concurrently.
In an unrelated case, husband and wife Daryl Wayne Maness, 38, and Shannon Ann Maness, 37, both of Chester County, Tennessee, pleaded guilty to one count each of receiving child pornography, and were each sentenced to 120 months in prison.
All three will also be be subject to 15 years of supervised release, during which time they must register as sex offenders, participate in sex offender treatment, have no contact with minors, and refrain from accessing or possessing pornography of any kind. The also may not live near places where minors are likely to be, such as parks or swimming pools.

In an unrelated case, husband and wife Daryl Wayne Maness, 38, and Shannon Ann Maness, 37, both of Chester County, Tennessee, pleaded guilty to one count each of receiving child pornography, and were each sentenced to 120 months in prison.
All three will also be be subject to 15 years of supervised release, during which time they must register as sex offenders, participate in sex offender treatment, have no contact with minors, and refrain from accessing or possessing pornography of any kind. The also may not live near places where minors are likely to be, such as parks or swimming pools.
